Charlie Mattina

Northern Development Advisor

Charlie Mattina is a dedicated public servant with over a decade of experience specializing in economic development, environmental planning, and public relations. Currently, he serves as a Northern Development Advisor for the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, where he provides crucial advisory services to municipal leaders, businesses, and organizations. In this role, he develops and delivers key programs, manages projects, and maintains vital relationships with stakeholders across Northern Ontario.

His current position is the culmination of a progressive career within the Ontario government. Prior to becoming an advisor, Charlie spent over six years as a District Planner with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. There, he used his deep knowledge of legislation and policy to ensure projects were reviewed accurately by specialist teams. His public service career began with roles as a Far North Planner and a Canoe Route Technician, giving him on-the-ground experience in remote environments.

Charlie’s career is also distinguished by a diverse and practical background. His work as a Research Assistant at Lakehead University involved studying tourism impacts in isolated First Nations and Inuit communities, providing him with invaluable insight into community-based development. Complementing this is his hands-on experience as a Welder for Bombardier Transportation. This unique blend of high-level policy work, academic research, and practical trade skills gives him a well-rounded and effective approach to supporting development in the North.
