The group called "ogechidaakwe(g) zhii baa shka igan magod nanandawi shimowaa" will be performing at the Gala event at OFNEDA this year. Leading this young group of women is Cheryl Suggashie, she has been a mentor to young students of Dennis Franklin Cromarty (DFC) for many years. Joining the stage will be Summer S., Jess M., Kayleigh L., and Karlee M.
This Jingle Dress dance troupe was started because the Jingle Dress is known as the Healing dress. With the 7 youth inquest and "river of tears" being all over the media and Thunder Bay, Cheryl and some DFC students, at that time, decided to share their teachings and ceremonies with each other using music and dance. This transpired into a healing journey as the young women worked with their hands to create their own tangible item and continue to learn about the Jingle Dress and First Nations traditions from this region.
