The Ontario First Nations Economic Development Association (OFNEDA) proudly recognized Leading Cloud Gardens of Apitipi Anicinapek Nation (AAN) as the recipient of the 2026 Community Project of the Year Award during the First Nations Economic Advancement Conference (FNEAC) Gala Dinner and Awards Night on September 15.
Led by Kara Tremblay, Food Coordinator, the award-winning initiative has become a leading example of how First Nations communities are advancing food security, food sovereignty, community wellness, and economic development through innovative, community-driven solutions.
The Community Project of the Year Award recognizes transformative projects that create lasting impact through strategic planning, collaboration, innovation, and a strong commitment to First Nation values. Leading Cloud Gardens exemplifies these qualities by addressing one of the most important challenges facing remote and northern communities: access to healthy, affordable, and culturally relevant food.
Established as an Indigenous Food Security and Sovereignty Initiative within Apitipi Anicinapek Nation's Economic Development portfolio, Leading Cloud Gardens was created to improve local food access while building community capacity and self-sufficiency.
