Denise Boyer-Payette is a Michi Saagiig Anishinaabe-kwe from Mississauga First Nation, located within the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850 territory. She serves as a Program Officer with Cando, where she supports initiatives focused on strengthening Indigenous economic development, community capacity, and additional opportunities for Indigenous communities across Canada.
Denise is also serving her second term as an elected Councillor for Mississauga First Nation. Her experience across community governance, economic development, communications, and post-secondary education has shaped her commitment to advancing community-driven approaches to Indigenous economic development.
She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Indigenous Studies and a Graduate Certificate in Public Relations. Through both her national and community leadership roles, Denise brings a perspective grounded in the intersection of governance and economic development, with a particular interest in strengthening Indigenous leadership, creating opportunities for the next generation, and supporting long-term self-determined community prosperity.
