Greg Rickford

Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation of Ontario

Greg Rickford is the Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora—Rainy River, first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022 and 2025. He currently serves as Ontario’s Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, Minister Responsible for the Ring of Fire Economic and Community Partnerships, and Chair of the Cabinet Committee for Economic and Resource Policy. He has also held portfolios as Minister of Energy, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry, and Northern Development. As Chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) for over six years, he modernized funding programs, expanded skilled training pathways, and attracted global investment to Northern Ontario.

MPP Rickford’s background includes careers in nursing, law, and politics. He holds a Nursing diploma from Mohawk College, a BScN from the University of Victoria, an MBA from Université Laval, and dual law degrees from McGill University. His legal work focused on Indigenous governance, health, and economic development, and he was a signatory to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.

From 2008 to 2015, he served as the federal MP for Kenora, holding several cabinet roles including Minister of Natural Resources. His nursing career included serving nearly a decade in remote Indigenous communities across Canada. Above all, MPP Rickford values his role as a father to his two daughters.
