Kara Tremblay is an Algonquin Cree woman from Apitipi Anicinapek Nation and serves as the Food Coordinator for Apitipi Anicinapek Nation, where she leads and manages Leading Cloud Gardens, the Nation's community-driven food sovereignty initiative. With a background in agriculture, community development, and youth programming, Kara is passionate about creating opportunities that reconnect people with the land while strengthening local food systems.
Under her leadership, Leading Cloud Gardens has grown into a thriving hub for regenerative agriculture, greenhouse production, food forests, traditional medicines, composting, soil restoration, workforce development, and cultural food revitalization projects, including wild rice restoration. Kara believes that some of the greatest lessons come through trial, collaboration, and continuous learning, and she openly shares both the successes and challenges of building sustainable food systems in Northern Ontario.
Her vision is to create spaces where Elders, youth, families, and community partners can learn, grow, and work together while restoring Indigenous relationships with the land. Through strong partnerships, innovative programming, and a commitment to community-led solutions, Kara is helping demonstrate how Indigenous food sovereignty can drive economic development, environmental stewardship, cultural revitalization, and long-term community resilience.
