I have followed many different paths throughout my working life. I started working at a young age and finally began settling down—at least a little—when I was around 25.
I spent 35 years with Rogers Communications, working in numerous positions ranging from office based roles to field technician. I also have more than 30 years of experience in medical and emergency response environments.
My early career included working in both small- and large-animal veterinary practice. I later worked as part of the nursing staff in a hospital, briefly served as an ambulance attendant, and recently retired after more than 26 years as a firefighter.
I have also been an entrepreneur throughout much of my life. As a young man, I operated a business booking bands into bars and entertainment venues. I have worked in the pest-control industry and continue to operate a small nuisance-wildlife trapping business serving estates, farms, golf courses, and municipalities.
Now that I have retired from my day-to-day careers with Rogers Communications and the Fire Department, I often find myself asking, “How did I ever have time to work two full-time jobs?” Retirement certainly has not slowed me down.
Over the years, I have served on numerous community organizations and committees. My roles have included President of a village association and Vice-President and Secretary of a cemetery board. These experiences taught me a great deal about leadership, local politics, public concerns, and the importance of listening to people.
I currently serve as President of a conservation club with approximately 400 members. I have also served for many years as Chair of the club’s Restricted Firearms Section and as one of its trainers.
My Life with Kiki
I was involved in falconry for years before stepping away when I recognized that I could not provide the time and commitment the birds deserved. That changed when Kiki came into my life. Caring for her brought me back to falconry and renewed my appreciation for the patience, consistency, and discipline required to work with a bird of prey.
Kiki requires a dependable daily routine and my complete attention. Our relationship has been built through hundreds of hours of trust, repetition, patience, and mutual respect. She keeps me grounded while continuing to teach me valuable lessons about communication, body language, responsibility, and living in the moment.
Last—but certainly never least—is my wife and best friend of more than 35 years, Lucy. She is my partner, my soulmate, and the person who keeps me on the straight and narrow. She is also the one who keeps 911—and a few close friends—on speed dial, just in case my next idea gets me into trouble.
