Ziggy Robert Beardy has worked with the Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board (SLAAMB) for 29 years, since relocating from his home community of Bearskin Lake, Ontario. As Projects Manager, he has led numerous employment and training initiatives, most notably the SLAAMB Carpentry Apprenticeship Training Program. This five-year program supports apprentices from northern communities in achieving Red Seal certification through classroom learning and hands-on experience with certified tradespeople. Trainees have built multiple large-scale structures in Hudson, Ontario, including a residential unit for incoming female trainees. Ziggy also manages SLAAMB’s broader Trades portfolio, which offers training in fields like Plumbing, Electrical, Heavy Equipment Operation, Culinary Arts, and more for 25 First Nations communities. He plays a key role in organizing the annual Band Economic Development Officers Conferences and SLAAMB Career Fair at Sioux North High School. Ziggy is committed to building a skilled, locally trained workforce rooted in traditional values.
